Alaska
Charter Fishing
The
following is a letter that my brother sent to a fishing lodge
in Alaska after his recent trip.
I
thought you folks at Cedars Lodge would like this “after”
picture of the Trophy King Salmon I caught last September. We
had it preserved for eternity by an expert taxidermist. It is
up on our wall in the family room in our home, which has a fishing
theme. It’s a beauty isn’t it? The work this guy does
is just fantastic; he never ceases to amaze me. The other fish
we caught has all been eaten. There is just nothing like cooking
your very own catch. Every time salmon,
halibut or red snapper is on our dinner plates we reminisce
the thrill of landing them.
This
brings me to why I am writing and sending this picture to you.
I know you have a wall of photos in the lodge and though you could
add mine. This year our reservations are made for early July.
I’ll be part of a threesome; myself and two business associates
are taking a week to unwind and reel in some of those great fish
you are hoarding up there in Alaska. We decided on July because
it is peek fishing time for King, Pink and Silver Salmon. One
of my associates wants to focus on halibut and red snapper.
I
must tell you the fishing isn’t the only thing that keeps
me coming back year after year. Cedar Lodge is a beautiful place
to stay. There is great food, the staff is super, the guides know
what they’re talking about and I love the great outdoors.
It is more than a fishing trip, it is a vacation. I have never
had so much fun or slept better than when I am on my yearly trip
to Ketchikan.
We
have planned two-day trips with our personal guide again. They
always seem to have the inside information as to where they’re
biting. The family is keen on any and all fish I bring back, we
always enjoy every last bit of it! You sure know how to grow them
in Alaska! Just on a side note, while we are in Ketchikan we are
going to take an afternoon and attend the Great Alaska Lumberjack
show. I heard it was a hoot. I’m going to give the log rolling
a try, though, I’m pretty sure I’ll get “wet
behind the ears.”
See
you soon
